ART OF FILM & FILMMAKING
This course will introduce students to a variety of groundbreaking films and filmmaking techniques. Understanding basic film theory and industry terminology will enhance class discussions, and help students form a deeper understanding of this relatively new art form. Students will learn about camera & lens choices, composition, camera movements, environment, blocking, quality of light, color grading, sound recording, editing styles, etc. The class will explore film genres such as action, comedy, mystery, drama, documentary, etc. Through interactive learning exercises, students will replicate techniques and concepts learned in class. Guest lectures and field trips will be arranged if time and public safety permits. Class notes & film journaling will be graded. Films will be shown during class, and recommended for home viewing. Content will be preapproved by school staff and parents. Buttered popcorn will be provided :)

Unit 5 - Post Production
• FX, editing, & color grading
• Promotion & Distribution
Unit 6 - The Future of Film & Filmmaking
• Students attempt to replicate classic film scenes using smartphones
• Discuss how advances in technology will change filmmaking
• What aspects of Film & Filmmaking are inspiring to each student.
